Governors
The Governing Board has 3 core functions:
- Setting the vision and strategic direction of the school
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the school’s educational performance and for the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff
- Ensuring financial resources are well spent
Our Governing Board works in partnership with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to determine the strategic development of the school and set priorities for development and improvement. Governors are also responsible for monitoring teaching and learning, reviewing performance data, attendance and behaviour, financial expenditure and staffing.
The Governing Board does not have responsibility for the day to day running of the school, that is the responsibility of the Headteacher. Governors act as a critical friend offering advice and challenge where necessary.
Most of the work of the Governing Board is undertaken by the three sub committees – Curriculum, Staffing and Finance and Premises, which meet each term. The Governing Board also meets each term to receive and discuss reports which give a full overview of the work of the school.
Governors regularly visit the school to meet the children to share their learning experiences, attend school productions, class assemblies and other school celebrations.
Membership of the governing body includes Foundation governors, appointed by the Catholic Archbishop of Southwark to ensure the school’s Catholic ethos is maintained and developed, parent governors, staff governors and a governor nominated by the local authority.
