Our Lady of the Rosary

Our Lady of the Rosary is a RRSA Bronze: Rights Committed School.

We are proud to announce that we have achieved the UNICEF Bronze Award for our commitment to the rights and well-being of children. This impressive award reflects our dedication as a school community to creating a nurturing environment where every child can thrive, learn, and grow.

Our School Council have actively engaged in promoting children's rights and raising awareness about global issues. This recognition highlights our collective efforts to foster empathy, inclusivity, and social responsibility among our school community.

Aims

  • We believe that one of our key roles is to produce learners who know that they have a right to have their voice heard.
  • We want our children to be confident and articulate and to show respect and compassion to everyone they meet.
  • The UNICEF Convention of the Rights of the Child have provided a common language for us to use with our children so that the rights for children not just in our school, but also across the world can be discussed.
  • The UNICEF Rights of the Child are brought into everyday life in school as seen beside each display throughout the main corridor, featuring in school policies and newsletters, in classroom charters and in lessons.

We are proud that:

  • Our team of ambassadors are proactive in taking action to support the rights of others,
  • Our whole school community - children, parents and staff, have been recognised for the passion shown and commitment to being a Rights Respecting School, as shown through the achievement of the Bronze award.

Successes:

  • On 22nd March 2024 we celebrated our first rights day, focusing on Article 2: All children have rights no matter who they are or what they look like!
  • July 2024 we celebrated Article 29: You have the right to an education that helps you to develop your skills and talents. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing their skills and talents with their peers and each class chose a talent to put forward for our OLOR’s Got Talent Celebration Assembly.

Next Steps:

  • We will be continuing our hard work towards achieving the UNICEF Silver Award.

We believe that by working together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of children both locally and globally. Let us continue to inspire change and champion the rights of all children!
